Introduction

This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to automate the creation of reporting templates using the Fusion Metadata Registry (FMR) REST API. You will learn how to generate SDMX-compliant reporting templates, configure metadata structures, and integrate automated processes into statistical workflows.

About this module

This module aims to provide you with the knowledge and skills to create detailed reporting templates using Fusion Metadata Registry (FMR) web services. The process involves several key steps, including:

  • Setting up the required metadata structures
  • Defining the reporting template
  • Utilising the appropriate web services to generate and manage the template

This guide offers a comprehensive overview to support you through each stage of the process.

Prerequisites

Before starting this training, learners should meet the following technical and knowledge-based requirements:

Technical Requirements

  • Access to an instance of the Fusion Metadata Registry (FMR). See sdmx.io for installation options.
  • A directory service, such as Active Directory, integrated with FMR.
  • Access to a directory service account with the necessary permissions in FMR to create and manage metadata structures and reporting templates.
  • Access to a directory service account with the necessary permissions in FMR to act as a Data Provider for a provision agreement.

Knowledge Requirements

  • Familiarity with SDMX concepts such as Data Structure Definition (DSD), Dataflows, and Provision Agreements.
  • Ability to create and work with FMR reporting templates, ideally from the sdmx.io course Data Collection with XLSX Templates.
  • Understanding of FMR validation and transformation web services, possibly from the sdmx.io course Automating Structural Validation Using the FMR REST API.

Learning Objectives

This module aims to cover:

  • How to create detailed reporting templates using FMR’s web services
  • How to use web services to edit and transform templates and generate an XLSX workbook
  • How to populate an XLSX workbook with data
  • The importance of validating the XLSX workbook against FMR’s 9 validation rules and converting it to another SDMX format for processing
